Strange...I thought I posted while in my random foreign countries. Oh well.
I just returned from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, and France. The trip was incredible for so many reasons. Firstly, this was my first time in another country (not counting mexico-I drove over the border, so it doesn't count). I forget how young our country is...the buildings over there are thousands of years older than anything here. My house isn't even going to be standing for another 100 years! The scenery is breathtaking. You can't find find beauty like that in the United States. The shops are darling, and I loved pretending like I was from whatever town I was in! The people in the shops would talk to me in German, and I would respond ever so eloquently...until I didn't understand them anymore. Then I just smiled shyly, agreed with whatever they said, and quickly scooted out of the store. Boo ya.
It is incredible to see how people in those countries are exactly the same as us. They do the same things we do, and act the same way, but they have different words to describe everything. Of course, the toiletts flush differently, the money is prettier, everyone has a dog, and everything closes at freaking 5:00, but I felt just as normal there as I do at home. I felt like myself, regardless of what language I was speaking. (I tried french, but alas, I only know 20 words or so.)
I took 484 pictures, and if someone would like to enlighten me as to how to use this stupid lj thing, I will post a few of my favorites.
The highschoolers were so cute. It reminded me of being 16 again. My how my priorities have changed. One of them had a crush on me, and I politely reminded him that I am about 6 years older, and am quite taken. He told me that age doesn't matter when we're in Germany, based on the idea that he can drink at a younger age. They were all so fun to play with...annoying at times, but fun none the less.
I also got to practice being 21! Hooray. It was weird being able to legally order alcohol, and having to come back here, and not be able to order it for exactly 31 days. August 20th, here I come! I hate being the young one of all my friends.
My dad and grandparents are going to come to spfld to help me celebrate. If anyone wants to hitch a ride with them and come see me, that would rock! Or, if you want to come see me anyway, it's just a hop, skip, jump, and a relatively short interstate drive away.
Today is G and Brian's Birthday!! Happy Birthday, you crazy kids!!!!!! I love you, and hope you have a great time without me at the bars for a month...you jerks... ;-)
I just got off a damn plane, and I get back on next week to visit my momma. This should be all kinds of interesting, considering the divorce isn't even half over yet, and it's been 3 years. Wish me luck.
I go back to school in 3 weeks. WHERE THE !@#$&* DID MY SUMMER GO!??!!?
